Is the New iPhone SE a Better Choice for Apple Users?
Are you a budget-minded individual? Well, the iPhone SE could be the phone for you. It’s a relatively cheap smartphone. But you still experience benefits of high-end gadgets like iPhone 11 Pro.
Price/performance is a matter of concern to many users. But this low-cost iPhone puts on a good show. With official releases on April 24, 2020, it is bigger and better than the 2016 SE.
The 2020 iPhone SE has a similar design to the iPhone 8. Typically, it has a 4.7-inch Retina HD LCD display screen. Still, the back and the front is built of glass with a color matching aluminum band.
It also offers a single 12-megapixel primary camera and a single 7 MP front camera. Like other Apple smartphones, it provides fast charging, and some sensors, among other features.
Conspicuously missing from the 2020 iPhone SE are features like Face ID and a triple-lens camera. Additionally, the battery life seems to be on the lower side.
The unveiling of the 2nd generation iPhone SE is an effort by Apple to carter for the budget-conscious user. Undoubtedly, at that price point, the company sacrifices some features.
Does this impact on the general performance of this budget-friendly phone?
The overall experience isn’t different from high-end Apple smartphones. This is because iPhone’s software is mostly the same regardless of the model you’re using. So the iPhone SE feels almost like any other iPhone.
Budget-Friendly iPhone SE 2020
Sadly, the phones miss some basic features such as headphone jack. So if you use wired headphones, it is impossible with this phone.
Size and Design
This version stands at a 4.7-inch screen size and has chunky bezels above and below, which gives it a feeling of belonging to the past.
Most modern iPhone has an all-screen design with a notch at the top – with barely any bezels. However, there is more premium aluminum inside, making it a little weightier.
On the other hand, the iPhone SE’s design confers comfortable portability and compact grip, thanks to its much less weight. The phone weighs only 148 g (5.22 oz.) with dimensions of 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm.
The iPhone SE has the home button – it remains the only iPhone with a physical home button. It is a feature that makes the iPhone intuitive to use. You do not need the swipe gestures to return to the home screen.
The home button also houses the fingerprint reader for unlocking the phone and authorizing digital payments, i.e., Touch ID.
2020 iPhone SE Display
The display is not feature-rich, but it’s okay. So do not expect a fancy OLED display. It packs an IPS LCD – Retina HD, which is less sharp than a more recent Liquid Retina HD display. Worse, it is less sharp than cheaper android phones, though not a deal-breaker.
Software & Hardware
The iPhone SE packs a more powerful engine for better performance. The extra power puts this phone at par with high-end iPhone 11. They rival in speed when flipping between apps, and editing photos and video. Besides, it improves camera performance.
The Apple A13 Bionic (7 nm+) chipset has good speed and is more powerful than the iPhone 8. The phone can handle graphically intensive tasks and apps though not as much as the iPhone 11 Pro. It won’t lose performance even with intense gaming thanks to the 4-core graphics Apple GPU.
The iPhone SE features a 3GB of RAM and a Hexa-core processor (2×2.65 GHz Lightning + 4×1.8 GHz Thunder). With such features, there is little slow down on the iPhone SE.
The iPhone SE Camera
It is a 12MP single sensor and f/1.8 wide-angle aperture but with advanced image processing. The phones you take with the phone are great, but not market-leading. Similarly, you have great range options to record videos.
The improved photo quality of this apple iPhone is thanks to the A13 Bionic chipset. The processor does a lot f heavy lifting to ensure you get wonderful snapping.
Apple doesn’t disclose the battery capacity of iPhone SE. However, the official apple site indicates that it has a similar battery run time with the iPhone 8, which is less than the iPhone 11 by 2-4 hours. The SE 2020 lasts about 15 and a half hours on Airplane mode.
What Is Unique about iPhone SE?
Many reviews compare iPhone SE to the iPhone 11, which cost almost twice. The device was created for people who need a new iPhone. Surprisingly, it retains the high-end performance of the latest Apple iPhone.
The design is dated with its thick bezels. However, the display is decent, and the build quality is reliable. Additionally, the A13 chip gives a super-fast performance.
The camera quality is excellent, but it will struggle in low light intensity.
The iPhone SE doesn’t look flashy. It is smaller than the latest versions of Apple. Its chipset is robust, making it able to perform functions that powerful and costly apple devices do.
It’s true; Apple iPhones are expensive. But the 2020 iPhone SE allows you to own a new iPhone at low cost but retaining premium software of Apple.
